Unwanted Blog Creations, Spam or Delete…The Same?

Ok, here I am again, the newby question guy. I have a few questions and haven’t seemed to been able to find the answers in searches, perhaps it is because the questions are so basic….

First off, if there are blogs that I want to get rid of, i.e. spam blogs, improper content etc.. if I mark them as spam it prevents them from being able to be recreated correct? If I mark them as spam is it the same as deleting them? I currently am getting the problem of the databases being to large, have over a thousand users, most are of course useless and spam type blog accounts, so I need to clean them out, if I delete them without there being some type of setting to not allow recreate the they will simply come back, how do I combat this, or is there an easier way I don’t know about…an example would be lastlongerinbed.politicallygrounded.com though I am sure there have been many an arguments, divorces, fights, and out right wars caused through history over men feeling sexually inadequate, I don’t relate it as a valid politically themed blog…so I deleted the blog, if you type in the blog url it allows you to obtain the blog as a new account…easy fix to prevent this would be?

Sorry for the bloviating, just frustrated at the spam and attempting to find a way to compete against it….going to have the same going on at freebloggersworld too once it is in swing but how to compete with it on an open topic blog is again another perplexing question.

Thanks in advance,

Brad

Most of us just spam the blogs. That way if you make a mistake you can reverse it. While it’s nice to have a clean db, it’s not really worth the trouble to delete unless you need a specific subdomain freed up.

On a related note, watch for a very special plugin release in the next few weeks!

Thanks Aaron!…appreciate it, though what if you are attempting to lower the size of your database? I would assume the only two ways of doing that would be one to delete the ridiculous spam blogs, or two go with the multiple DB which is another nightmare all together from what I gather?

My current host for politicallygrounded.com is saying that I am using to many system resources, I am sure database size is the reason, of course it is right around the same time I start to consistently start making $3-$6+ dollars a day on adsense shared revenue, guess the best answer is to just upgrade the hosting package and leave things alone, just mark them as spam as my gut tells me to do?

Yeah I agree…I did receive a response back from my host however, it is not the size of my database that is causing the load problem, he said it was a coding problem and that I should contact my programmer…I don’t have one  but that is ok, I am running nothing but the plugins from here that I know of, I am wondering though if it could possibly be a content monitoring plugin, or spam monitoring plugin causing the problem?

Thanks Andrew….I sent a request on whether they had the offending culprit handy or if I was going to have to look through the logs myself, though I personally think they should already have that info handy and let me know to save me the time of looking  The host is Psek so they have experience at hosting WP-MU I am sure it is an issue with one of the plugins running heavy, perhaps I am being hack attempted to many times or something I don’t know, hopefully we’ll get it tracked down easily and quickly…going to upgrade the account too…just can’t afford to do it today, already have a vps for another site with another host but want to keep all the WP stuff with Psek preferably as long as pricing for the VPS isn’t to outrageous, they don’t seem to have to good of a description on their sight for VPS, of course I do have the habit unfortunately of being not always coherent when looking at things

Ok, update from host, seems it is not my database size, and it really is not a plugin for say, though it was suggested that they be optimized for being on a shared server. Seems it is the amount of visitors causing the issue, got to hate when that happens . Though still not enough for my eyes, and I desperately need to get myself organized as well as the site too… They suggested a move to a dedicated server even beyond a VPS.

I have a VPS for another site, and another shared server for some other sites, so if I put them all together I could probably have them all on a decent dedicated server for around the same price I am already paying, just the logistics and cost of the change over and the overlap of billing that is not good at the just after Christmas time.

Just thought I would give an update…and maybe even get a suggestion back of what I should do, is a VPS ok for now or is the leap to the dedicated needed do you think, or, from what I am thinking, seems the VPS is a costly way of going resources wise?

    Hiya,

Just thought I would give an update…and maybe even get a suggestion back of what I should do, is a VPS ok for now or is the leap to the dedicated needed do you think, or, from what I am thinking, seems the VPS is a costly way of going resources wise?

That’s completely your decision. However, it’s clear you’ve outgrown the shared hosting account

    Thanks,
