Path to blogs.dir

When I installed MU I placed the folder on in the root directory of my d:wordpressmu (d drive) and then using IIS 7 created a virtual directory to my main web site which is also in the root directory of my d drive

d:my web site

Now when people are uploding avatars they are winding up in the root directory of d:my web site

Also, Whe I attempt to upload files from the computer they are in fact going into d:wordpressmuwp-contentblogs.dir200910 directory but they are not showing up in the image gallery

One more thing, when I added MU as a virual directory, I named the direcotry "blog"

When I browse to the to the blog every thing is fine http://my website/blog

however, when I click on a post within the blog, the url changes to http://my web site/blog/blog/2009/10/name of post/

Where is this second /blog/ coming from and why is the url to all my images in the image gallery showing up as being in http://worldnewsvine.com/blog/files/2009/10/iaea_iran3893_300x2002-75×75.jpg this is a real link and the images are in not there but in fact in

C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsTemporary Internet FilesWebTempDiriaea_iran3893_300x2001-75×75.jpg on the server.. this just started happening in October all the files from September are fine.

Now if I "link" the files from a url say http://mywebsite/images/image.jpg they show up fine?

I am attempting to go "live" by the end of the week and have folks posting and testing right now

Please Help!!!

    // uncomment to move wp-content/blogs.dir to another relative path

    // remember to change WP_CONTENT too.

    // define( "UPLOADBLOGSDIR", "fileserver" );

    Can some explain to me is I uncomment //define("UPLOADBLOGGERSDIR", "d:wordpresmuwp-contentuploads");

    What is WP_CONTENT? and how do I change that plus, would this correct the problem?

    Here’s what’s in the .htaccess file for the IIS 7.0

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !.*wp-content/plugins.*

    RewriteRule ^(.*/)?files/(.*) wp-content/blogs.php?file=$2 [L]

    # add a trailing slash to /wp-admin

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^.*/wp-admin$

    RewriteRule ^(.+)$ $1/ [R=301,L]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]

    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d

    RewriteRule . - [L]

    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(wp-.*) $2 [L]

    RewriteRule ^([_0-9a-zA-Z-]+/)?(.*.php)$ $2 [L]

    RewriteRule . index.php [L]

    <IfModule mod_security.c>

    <Files async-upload.php>

    SecFilterEngine Off

    SecFilterScanPOST Off

    </Files>

    </IfModule>

    Andrew,

    Why is the Miscellaneous optinf missing under my "Settings" on the dashboard?

    I am speaking to someone with Standard WordPress that corrected this problem changing the path to the field store uploads in this folder

    But she states 2.8.4 forgot to put in the /uploads

    I can’t even see Miscellaneous setting in the "Settings" group

    The latest version of WPMU does not have a ‘Miscellaneous’ settings page. I believe it’s one of the pages disabled in WPMU.

    Note that you can access all blog options via the Site Admin > Blogs page. Just hover over the blog you want to edit and click on the edit link.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Andrew,

    Could you help me with this:

    Upload Path wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files

    Fileupload URl

    http://worldnewsvine.com/blog/files/

    1) How do I change this to keep everyone’s avatars from winding up in the root directory of

    http://worldnews.com/

    2) My image gallery states the files are located in

    http://worldnewsvine.com/blog/files/2009/10/iaea_iran3893_300x2002-75×75.jpg

    When I ftp to the site with Expression Web, I see the .jpgs are there, and if I browse on it states the jog is located in

    C:UsersAdministratorAppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsTemporary Internet FilesWebTempDiriaea_iran3893_300x200.jpg

    I mean I am so tired and getting very confused… normally this would make sense to me but I need direction please

    Hiya,

    I’m afraid I really don’t have a clue what those settings would need to be changed to for it to work on IIS. Apache is actually a WP/WPMU requirement. While people have definitely be able to get WPMU to work on IIS in the past, i’m afraid it’s not really supported and therefore isn’t something we deal with often.

    Your best bet is to find someone who has installed WPMU on IIS before.

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    Okay there is no way anyone is going to tell me this 2.8.4a isn’t "BROKE"

    I just did a clean install, on another IP on the server with the MU in the www root directory with permissions to the world all the way through the entire blog and still the media library is BROKE

    For starters the default upload "url" was http://foo.com/blog/files

    This directory never existed in the first place, So I create one, and then a sub directory, 2009 and another sub directory named 10

    Next I even placed the file in the folder and I still get a 404 error trying to browse it

    So I said to myself, self since the default settings for the upload path are:

    wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files — I will change the settings in the blog to refect and upload url of the same… NOTHING

    I attempt another upload from the Media Library "ADD" and it states that the file should now exist in http://foo.com/blog/files/2009/10/pic.jpg

    No Matter what I do to the backend of this blog, it will not upload files…

    How the heck am I supposed to get people to come to the blog if they can’t upload files?

    There has to be some sort of hack in another file to make certain that the changes applied to the blog actually are applied…

    Yes, this is IIS 7.0 but what difference does that make?

    http://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

    Important bit:

    We recommend Apache or Litespeed

    While it is possible to get WP and WPMU to run on IIS (people have done it), IIS isn’t the recommended webserver. Due to that there isn’t a ton of troubleshooting information out there.

    Have you searched the mu forums to see if someone has experienced your problem before?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

    So what you are saying is that if I switch to a Linux server or put apache on the windows server you guarantee this will work, correct?

    I mean I didn’t come out and purchase support for this thing only to find out that I might have to switch servers and then it "may" work?

    we’ll all keep trying to help you, but it might be helpful to check what you paid for:

    As a Premium member you have access to over fifty plugins to extend your sites functionality, WPMU specific premium themes and theme packs, language packs, professional white label support videos for your personal use, beginners guides from A - Z and forum support from WPMU experts to help you along the way.

    this premium site doesn’t guarantee you they’ll fix every problem, they don’t install wpmu for you :slight_smile:

    nyway, will continue in the other thread you opened for his.

    It *should* work using Apache or Litespeed on a *NIX or *BSD box. That’s what it’s designed around. A simple check of the Install subforum on the wpmu forums shows that it doesn’t for everybody but all software is like that. I know folks who can’t install Windows.

    Yes, it should work if you follow the install instructions and the install requirements.

    So what you are saying is that if I switch to a Linux server or put apache on the windows server you guarantee this will work, correct?

    We’ll guarantee our plugins to work but as mentioned above we didn’t install WPMU for you so I’m afraid we can’t guarantee WPMU will work.

    I mean I didn’t come out and purchase support for this thing only to find out that I might have to switch servers and then it "may" work?

    You didn’t purchase WPMU support. You purchased our premium plugins and support for those plugins. We do try to assist with general WPMU issues but I’m afraid you’re using a webserver that we really don’t have experience with. WP/WPMU and LAMP go hand in hand.

    Thanks,

    Andrew
