My site's public_html folder seems empty

My site’s public_html folder seems empty with the username which was also previously registered with some other website on the hosting which is now deleted.

It seems like I am unable to get any files because it pointing to the previous site and not the current site.

    Hello Julian

I hope you’re well today and thank you for reaching out to us.

Have you tried to re-create that account? I know that sounds a bit “strange” but if not, please remove that account (removing SFTP account doesn’t remove any files) and simply re-create it with the very same username.

If that doesn’t help (or you already tried that and it didn’t work) let me know please.

    Kind regards,

    Adam

    Hi Julian

Thanks for confirmation and I’m glad it worked for you.

Actually, this was the course of action suggest by our admins (I merely passed that on to you) and as far as I understand it was indeed related. But still – we’ll keep an eye on such cases in case they were happening again.

    Kind regards,

    Adam

    Hi Julian,

We would want to do some additional tests from our end so I just want to be double sure that we’re testing correct thing here so can you tell if this is what was done from your end:

    – You had a site at exampleone.wpmudev.host

    – That site had SFTP account created, let’s say it had “sftpuser” as username

    – You deleted exampleone.wpmudev.host site completely

    – After that, you have created exampletwo.wpmudev.host site

    – For exampletwo.wpmudev.host you have create SFTP account but again used “sftpuser” username

    – With that user, your public_html folder was shown as empty so you have deleted it

    – You have now created a new account, did that account also used same username, “sftpuser”, or you used a different one?

Am I on the right path here or I’m missing something perhaps?

    Best regards,

    Predrag

      – After that, you have created exampletwo.wpmudev.host site

exampleone.wpmudev.host and exampletwo.wpmudev.host existed simultaneously and both had an SFTP account with the same username. After deleting one of the sites, the SFTP account on the remaining site started showing me an empty directory list. I deleted that account and re-recreated it using the same username as before. This temporarily fixed the problem. I was able to see all the directories for a while but now I’m getting an empty directory list again.

    Hello Julian

    Thank you for your response.

I just got some additional explanation from our admins and this is related to “mounting/unmounting” files in filesystem (that’s something specific to *nix operating systems mostly) that sometimes happens due to some “tech” reasons (I’m sorry, I’m not that good with server management to be able to go into details).

Could you please check if you can now login and see the files again? If not, please do remove and re-create account with the same username again and it should help again.

In fact, if it happens again please just do this – re-create account. Meanwhile, our sysadmins already got that on their task list to investigate it further and fix it on our end to avoid such cases in future.

    Best regards,

    Adam
