Hosting and Snapshot

It’s late in the day, so I might just be missing something.

I am testing the WPMUDEV Hosting and actually managed to restore a Snapshot from a different domain into the WPMUDEV staging site by uploading the script and backup file.

Some data has definitely restored into the staging site.

However, when trying to access wp-admin, I am redirected to the original domain at my other host. I can also confirm that the original theme of the front end is not activated by the snapshot.

According to my knowledge a snapshot restore usually updates everything, including new domain urls, or am I missing something?

    Hi aTz

    I hope you’re well today!

The Snapshot is not a migration tool and while it might sometimes work fine that way, it shouldn’t be used for migration to other domains and we cannot guarantee that it will. We’re working on the Shipper which will be specifically for migration and there’ll also be a migration available and it also will be integrated with our Hub/Hosting so you’d be able to flawlessly move the site.

In this case it’s probably the matter of URLs in the db indeed. I understand that you don’t have access to the ‘wp-admin’ either but you can access the site install via (S)FTP. This would let you use this script to update all the occurrences in the old domain to the new one:

    https://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/

If it’s a matter of that, this script (please note: it’s a standalone script, not a WP plugin) should help. It also features “dry run” mode so you can first use this to actually check what changes would be made in the database, before really making them.

Let me know, please, if this worked for you.

    Best regards,

    Adam
