what are the differences? are they useful both?

on your hosting must the function be installed or integrated via the control panel?

    Hello Edoardo,

Domain Mapping allows you to map domains (so have different URLs) for the subsites.

For example, you have Multisite: mymultisite.com. In that multisite, subsites are test.mymultisite.com.

With Domain Mapping, you can map a domain to test.mymultisite.com so subsite will be available under URL myseparatedomain.com.

MultiDomain on other hand allows creating a subsite under different domains.

For example, you have mymultisite.com Multisite and with MultiDomain you have added mymultisite2.com to your site. So your users are able to create subsites with URLs like that:

    – test1.mymultisite.com

    – test2.mymultisite2.com

Both plugins are useful when you need feature they are providing.

on your hosting must the function be installed

Yes, you need to install plugins however at the moment MultiDomain will not work, because it is only for subdomains install and right now we are only having subdirectory support.

But pointing the domain to the WordPress installation still has to be done inside Hostin panel.
